Oh, to be a kid again...

As overworked and underwhelmed ‘adults’ we naturally experience those random moments in which we suddenly become nostalgic for our childhood. Some individuals miss the trips to the playground on warm sunny days… running through backyard forests, climbing trees and scraping knees… building blanket forts in the living room… eating popsicles and drinking soda on grandma’s front porch… whatever.

What do I miss? Well, it’s none of the above. I mean, sure- playing ‘Indians and Cowboys’ and watching Saturday morning cartoons was fun and all, but there was a much more magnificent feature of my childhood.

Cereal.

Yes, you heard right. My most missed childhood memory is the countless bowls of sugar laden cereal I consumed. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack time was always best when I was digging in to heaping bowls of Cocoa Puffs or Cap n' Crunch. With milk or simply dry, it didn’t matter. I loved it all the same.

Please take into account that I was a ‘chubby’ child; therefore, my interests were vastly different than your more svelte and active lil’ Jack or Jill. My interests were chiefly those that contributed to the expansion of my waistline. (Thank God stretch pants were fashionable.)

Anyway, I experienced this moment of childhood nostalgia today and began Googlin’ my old school favorite cereals. Below is just a preview of what I used to routinely gorge on from the approximate ages of three to thirteen. While some are still around, others have sadly passed on (read: discontinued). My most missed friend is definitely French Toast Crunch. In fact, I would offer my first born in exchange for one last box of that goodness.

I can only pray that the human and cereal afterlives intersect.
